97年2月19-23日:モーツァルト「フリーメーソンの葬送音楽」「セレナーデ9番」「交響曲36番リンツ」/サンランシスコ交響楽団の演奏会について

Norrington just appeared with the San Francisco Symphony conducting a Mozart program consisting of the Masonic Funeral Music, Serenade No. 9 in D major, and Symphony No.36. I was present at a rehearsal and have to tell you, that I was tremendously impressed with his skills. He whipped that orchestra into shape with good humor and a tremendous amount of energy. In addition to bringing out the very best the orchestra has to give, he is a wonderful conductor to watch. Just had to pass this on to you, although I am certain, you already know it.

This is Vienna calling...
I can tell you from converations with Roger Norrington that he's really a very "nice" guy with a very good, typically British sense of humour. In Vienna he's so popular that all concerts are sold out and it is VERY difficult to get tickets.
The New Year Day's concert of Beethoven's 9th was a great success. The Vienna Symphonic Orchestra sounded quite different, beautifully transparent.

ブルックナーの3番の録音などについて

I would like to thank the person who did the Norrington Home page. He is one of my favorite conductors as well, and a review of his redition of Bruckner's 3rd Symphony will be in the February Issue of War and Romance.
