He entered a junior high school in Tokyo in 1908, but returned home in 1910 to assist in the family business. Following the great fire of Iwanai in 1954, which consumed his more than 1,600 works, he painted nature using vivid colors and jumpy lines. The work pictured here features a farm near Iwanai.
